ADBWeather Plus is designed to run on PocketPC 2002 and 2003 devices that have
internet connection. This means your PocketPC must have one of the following...
- is using ActiveSync's Pass Through connection (all 2002/2003 devices)
- a wired LAN card
- a wireless LAN/WAN card
- a modem card
- a bluetooth connection to an internet enabled device
The forecast data currently comes from the public domain. USA forecast data is
pulled from the National Weather Service, Canadian forecast data is
pulled from Environmental Canada, and International forecast data is
pulled from IPS MeteoStar.
^ Forecast Information...
ADBWeather Plus does not directly supply forecast data. ADBWeather Plus only
pulls forecast data from a web source and then redisplays the data in a
convenient manner on your Today Screen.
The forecast data currently comes from the public domain. USA forecast data is
pulled from the National Weather Service, Canadian forecast data is
pulled from Environmental Canada, and International forecast data is
pulled from IPS MeteoStar. ADBWeather Plus has no
relationship/responsibility with either National Weather Service,
Environmental Canada, or IPS MeteoStar. Note: currently only USA and Canadian forecasts show
detailed information, other forecasts usually just give a brief description
along with a High/Low. Should a data source become unavailable, then
ADBWeather Plus will not be able to get updated forecast data until the data
source becomes available again. This may occur when a data source's website is
down or running slowly.

^ General Installation Comment...
It has been found by some users that ADBWeather Plus does not behave properly if ADBWeather Plus was installed in external memory on the PocketPC. Try to reinstall in main memory.
^ Internet connection issues...
If you are having problems configuring a forecast or reloading a forecast, it
might be related to either your Internet connection, to the weather servers not
being available, or to invalid forecast parsing scripts.
To determine where the problem is,gotoStart->Programs->ADBWeatherPlus, do
File|Configure|Network.
1) press the "Test Connection" button
- Does this work?
No: this means that ADBWeather Plus is not getting connected to the Internet.
If you go thru a proxy server or firewall you might need to set the proxy
server information. You might also try to use PocketIE to test your connection
to the Internet. Note: AvantoGo is not a valid test.
Yes: your internet connection is valid, go to item (2)
2) Close Network screen and do File|Add new Forecast. Try to configure a
forecast.
- Does this work?
No, download failure: this would probably mean that the weather server is
temporarily unavailable.
No, parsing error: this means that you need new parsing scripts. Try item (3)
Yes: this means everything is working properly.
3) select "Check for New Scripts" on Step 1. If updated parsing scripts are
available they will automatically download to your PocketPC and ADBWeather Plus
will be updated. If new scripts are downloaded, retry item (2).
If still having problems, please email support with the city/state you are
trying.
^ Configuring a Forecast...
To Configure a forecast,gotoStart->Programs->ADBWeatherPlus, do File|Add
New Forecast.
Step 1: Select a region of interest
Step 2: Select your State/Country
Step 3: Select your City/County
Step 4: Select the Position it will appear in your forecast list
After selecting a city/county, ADBWeather Plus will download the forecast from
the internet. If there is an error, you will be notified. Potential sources of
errors are...
- internet connection is not available
- data source website in unavailable
- downloaded information is not in the expected format (try the "Check for New
Scripts" button, and then reconfigure a forecast)
Once a forecast is downloaded, it will become your active forecast when you go
back to the Today screen.
^ Preventing auto-cycling of forecast...
If you only want to show the first day's forecast on the Today screen without
having to set ADBWeather Plus in pause mode, you may set the 'Cycle Rate' to 0.
This will then only show the first day's forecast whenever the forecast is
reloaded.
You can still manually cycle through each day if you want.
To configure,gotoStart->Programs->ADBWeatherPlus, do File|Configure|Today
Screen.
^ Configuring a 'Pass Through' connection...
If you are using a PocketPC 2002/2003 device and ActiveSync 3.5/3.7, then you can take advantage of ActiveSync's new 'Pass Through' connection feature. The 'Pass Through' connection allows your PocketPC to directly share the internet connection from your desktop, thus allowing the use of internet-based applications on your PocketPC (e.g. Pocket Internet Explorer, email apps, ftp apps, etc.). To configure 'Pass Through' connection goto ActiveSync, Tools|Options, select 'Rules' tab, and then modify the 'Pass Through' connection section.
^ Why is the forecast not updating?
In general, this is happens when the National Weather Service, Environmental Canada, or IPS MeteoStar website is running slowly. You can try to browse to weather.noaa.gov and select your state and city via a web browser application. If it take a long time(15+ seconds) to download data, then it is probably a problem with their web server. Just try again at a later time.
^ Why don't all settings show in the popup menu?
As you will notice, you cannot do everything from the ADBWeather Plus popup menu. For example, you cannot configure a new forecast. Due to the nature of Today Screen plugins, actions which require complex operation are accessed from the popup menu Configure option. This will start the stand-alone application.
^ What is AutoReload?
AutoReload allows you to configure ADBWeather Plus to automatically reload data
from the internet. You can schedule Auto Reload on...
- Startup of ADBWeather Plus
- On connection to ActiveSync*
- At a user-defined time*
*requires ADBWeather Plus Today Screen plugin to be enabled.
If an internet connection is not available, ADBWeather Plus will simply timeout
and the most recent data will continue to be used.
^ It says download is in progress, but it's not.
If you try to Reload weather data and you see a message saying a download is
already in progress, then ADBWeather Plus thinks that a download event is
currently happening. This might occur if you start a Reload, but then lose the
connection to the internet or turn off the PocketPC while in the middle of a
Reload. If this happens ADBWeather Plus will still think it is in the middle of
a Reload, even though it is not.
To fix, simply start the main application and do File|Reload|Reset "Broken"
Reload from the main menu.
