PocketRSS Settings
- General: Basic settings for PocketRSS.
- Current Database: displays your current PocketRSS database
location. To change use "RSS Database" from main menu.
- Remove old data: enable this setting if you only want PocketRSS to
retain the most recent feed data for each Feed. By default, this option
is disabled, and PocketRSS retains a history of past feed data for you to
always have available.
- VGA device: enable this flag if you are using a VGA device. This
flag is used internally to help various PocketRSS functionality.
- RSS/View Mode : Setting for configuring the "look" of
your RSS and View mode listings.
- Auto Reload: Settings for configuring the frequency of
updating Feed Data.
- Note: Midnight is not a valid setting, but is considered as "off".
- Html/Description View: Settings for the viewing of
feed item description data.
- Show Images: will attempt to display inline images from the web
(requires you to be connected).
- Show Extended: will display the offline full webpages (if
available) for Feeds that you have enabled with the "Extended Data"
setting.
- Audio/Podcasting: Settings for the management of audio
data within PocketRSS. Note: audio data content is large and is not
stored within the PocketRSS database, but is stored in the Audio Cache
folder. Also, since that amount of downloading is large compared to feed
data, you either have to manually download queued audio content or schedule a
specific download time.
- Today Screen: Settings specific to the configuration
of PocketRSS on the Today Screen.
- Note: If you are using PocketBreeze, you with select both the
"Enable" and the "Use PocketBreeze" options.
- Warnings: Configuration of PocketRSS warning
messages.
- Special: Settings that can use to try to increase
PocketRSS performance. Note: use these with caution as the default
settings what should always work.
- Connect Time: Set the number of seconds PocketRSS will wait
while it attempt to connect to the internet.
- Download Buffer: You can change the size of the data block that
is used during each request for downloaded data via the internet. 4KB is the
default. For Audio data, you will probably want to increase the
block size to 32KB to increase download time.
- Skip Headers: Enable this option to tell PocketRSS not to
download the addtional HTTP header information. This header
information can be useful in detecting download errors. However,
requesting this information adds more time to downloading. If
you get a lot of download failures, then you should disable this
option. The default is to skip headers.
- Max Retries: You can specify the number of retry attempt that
will be made if a download event fails.
- Verify Database: With this option enabled, PocketRSS always
makes sure that the database file exists before it queries the data. This
helps safeguard against situations where the database is in external memory and
then the CF/SD card is removed from the Pocket PC while PocketRSS is still
active. However, extra verification may slowdown each database query
attempt. Hence, you have the option to disable this feature. The
default is enabled.
- Lock Database: Because the database is shared between the Today
Screen plugin and the main PocketRSS application, PocketRSS generally
obtains a temporary "lock" on the database which prevents another
application from accessing the database at the same time. Generally the
Operating System manages this task, but PocketRSS does its own
"locking" to help keep the Today Screen plugin and the
main PocketRSS application sync'd properly. The default is
enabled, but you may diasable "locking" to speed up database
queries. IMPORTANT, we DO NOT recommend this and only provide
this option for advanced users who assumes the risk of potentially corrupting
their PocketRSS database.
