PocketRSS is a Today Screen plugin and stand-alone application which allows a quick and easy method
of displaying various types of RSS/OPML compliant data on your Today Screen.
It does require a connection to the Internet from the
Pocket PC, but is designed to still function while offline.
This is the Final v2.1 Preview Release. It is a stable release, but please
backup your PocketRSS databases before installing v2.1.5.
*************IMPORTANT*****************
If you were using PocketRSS v2.1.2 or earlier, and you want to migrate your existing
PocketRSS databases, you will need to use the
PRSSConverter.exe utility before you
install this new version of PocketRSS.
If you do not want to use the
PRSSConverter.exe utility, you may also create
PocketRSS Backup files (*.prbk) before you install this new version.
The new version of PocketRSS can still consume earlier PocketRSS Backup files, but will
not support the *.prdb databases.
About
PRSSConverter.exe: This utility is a Pocket PC application that you simply copy
to your Pocket PC and run. You need to use this utility before you install v2.1.5.
The utility will show you a listing of all your old PocketRSS Databases (*.prdb) and
let you convert them to the new v2.1.5 format (*.rsdb).
About the Database: Previously, PocketRSS was using Microsoft Pocket Access and ADOCE as its database solution.
However, it was not an ideal solution for all devices and is not support with the
new WM 5.0 OS. As a result we have switched to the open source
sqlite database format.
Our low-level testing has shown this to be 10x-15x faster than Pocket Access and is working
so much better on storage cards than Pocket Access does.
